Bangor Young Men was established in 1941 and is the oldest running club in the town. This year marks the start of an exciting new project with the introduction of an academy to develop young players and make a difference throughout the community. We have a number of IFA qualified coaches who are extremely enthusiastic to running this project which is targeting kids from 4-8 years old.

The aim of the Academy is to create players who are comfortable on the ball and make good decisions when in or out of possession. We will achieve this by creating themed training sessions that reflect the relationship between training and match situations. Within each training session each player will be provided with a Learning Objective to help focus their learning on the theme being worked on. The teaching styles of our coaches at the Academy will be flexible but with a predominant preference of Question and Answer and Guided Discovery across the phases. However, other coaching styles such as the Command Style, Observation and Feedback, and Trial and Error will be used at different times. By using our preferred styles of coaching we will encourage the players to think independently, or work alongside others to gain benefit. We believe that by coaching in this way the player will develop a sense of responsibility for their learning that will stay with them for the rest of their careers.
